SUNDAY LIQUOR SALES AT 10 AM

 Section 4-60-130 of the Municipal Code of Chicago has been amended to allow the sale of liquor at 10:00AM on Sundays by businesses with a consumption on the premises-incidental activity license and a retail food establishment license.

 

BEER INDUSTRY INCREASES CONTRIBUTION TO U.S . ECONOMY 2/16/05

2.  According to Beer Institute and the National Beer Wholesalers Association, beer related business contribute more than $162 billion annually to the US economy.  This includes brewers, wholesalers, retailers, and brewer suppliers and they employ 1.8 million jobs.  This is an increase of 12 percent from 2001 of federal economic output.

2,000 BARS LOST IN 15 YRS 1/3/05

As of January 1, 2005, 60 percent of Chicago’s bars have permanently closed their doors.  This is due to high sales tax rates, precincts becoming dry and the numerous hospitality fees and taxes.

BILL PREVENTS ABUSIVE CLASS-ACTION LAWSUITS 2/18/05

The Class Action Bill was signed into effect today in D.C.  This bill requires that class action lawsuits exceeding $5 million  fall under federal jurisdiction.  This applies when the plaintiff and the defendant are citizens of different states.

KANE COUNTY INCREASES LIQUOR LICENS FEES 2/10/05

CHICAGO STREAMLINES THE RESTARUANT AND LIQUOR APPLICATION PROCESS 1/10/05

As of January 3, 2005, the application process for liquor licenses are easier for business owners.  New business owners can now submit their application when certain criteria are met, then submit the remaining documents within 30 days.  Business that are expanding, renewing, and changing officers, also benefit from these changes.  Complete information can be found at http://www.cityofchicago.org/revenue
